It was feast or famine at Crescent this weekend. Saturday we waited for wind and Sunday by the last race we had more than we needed...but it was fun! We started a bit early Sunday and had three great great races. We began with overcast skies and SSW winds about 12 to 15 kts. Both the first and second race had similar conditions and both were windward leewards, two times around. The last race they set a triangle! The winds kicked up to about 15 with some gusts about 20! It made for interesting jibe marks!

2009 ICEBREAKER Regatta on October 3-4
Hosted by CSYC Crescent Sail Yacht Club and Thistle Fleet #2 CSYC is on Lake Saint Clair in Grosse Pointe, MI (Detroit...)
This regatta was part of Lake Erie Fall Series (LEFS)
Icebreaker did it's best to hold up to its name this past weekend. At noon the local data bouy weather was 23 to 26 Knots (not mph) and temperatures in the 50's. We sat on shore and watched the first round of a collegiate regatta (also being held at Crescent). When we saw half the fleet upside down and one boat abandoned with it's skipper rushed in with a possible concussion we were happy to sit some more. By 2pm the winds subsided to 14 to 18 kts and we went out. The water is about 60 F so it actually felt a bit warmer on the water than on land. We got two good races in and were back at the dock by 5 pm.
The evening brought the usual fun Thistle comaraderie and after dinner local member Bryan Briedan brought out his guitar. He was singing everything from James Talyor and Niel Diamond to Green Day and Rocky Horror. Occasional bouts of Monty Python rounded out the sets. Many of us were joining in and all had a great time!
Sunday brought a bit less wind but similar temperatures. We got two really good races in and the PRO Matt Bounds got in the third just before the 12:30 deadline specified in the sailing instructions.
